{"id":129,"date":"2015-07-19T19:10:02","date_gmt":"2015-07-19T19:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/strathroycaradoclions.ca\/?page_id=129"},"modified":"2016-07-12T15:16:47","modified_gmt":"2016-07-12T19:16:47","slug":"tree-of-light","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/rememberourvets.ca\/index.php\/tree-of-light\/","title":{"rendered":"Tree of Light"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Normal-P\" style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt; direction: ltr; unicode-bidi: normal; text-autospace: none;\"><span class=\"Normal-H\"><span style=\"; color: #1A1A1A; font-size: 18pt;\">Tree of Light<\/span><span style=\"; color: #1A1A1A; font-size: 18pt;\"> \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal-P\" style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt; direction: ltr; unicode-bidi: normal; text-autospace: none;\"><span class=\"Normal-H\"><span style=\"; color: #1A1A1A; font-size: 16pt;\">Last Friday in November each year<\/span><span style=\"; color: #1A1A1A; font-size: 16pt;\"> (November 25, 2016)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal-P\" style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt; direction: ltr; unicode-bidi: normal; text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Normal-H\"><span style=\"; color: #1A1A1A;\">Helen Keller presented Lions with a challenge in 1925 to become \u201cKnights of the blind\u201d.\u00a0 As a result Lions clubs around the world have taken on a variety of sight related projects.<\/span><span style=\"; color: #1A1A1A;\"> For example . . .<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal-P\" style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt; direction: ltr; unicode-bidi: normal; margin-left: 24pt; text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Normal-H\"><span style=\"color: #1a1a1a;\">The Strathroy \u2013 Caradoc Lions Club&#8217;s first target for funding by this\u00a0project was the purchase of an <\/span><strong><span style=\"; color: #1A1A1A;\">ophthalmology<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"; color: #1A1A1A;\"><strong> Chair<\/strong> for the emergency room at the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. It is now in use for eye care in our area!!!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal-P\" style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt; direction: ltr; unicode-bidi: normal; margin-left: 24pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">In subsequent years we have installed lockable <strong>bicycle racks<\/strong>, <strong>wheelchair accessible picnic tables<\/strong> at three parks, and laser cut steel <strong>benches<\/strong> in the downtown core.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal-P\" style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt; direction: ltr; unicode-bidi: normal; text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Normal-H\"><span style=\"; color: #1A1A1A;\">There is a large evergreen tree beside the Strathroy town hall that we decorate with strings of lights during December.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal-P\" style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt; direction: ltr; unicode-bidi: normal; text-autospace: none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rememberourvets.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/City-Hall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-132 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/rememberourvets.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/City-Hall-300x279.jpg\" alt=\"City Hall\" width=\"234\" height=\"218\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/rememberourvets.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/BareTree.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-133\" src=\"https:\/\/rememberourvets.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/BareTree.jpg\" alt=\"BareTree\" width=\"168\" height=\"223\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal-P\" style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt; direction: ltr; unicode-bidi: normal; text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Normal-H\"><span style=\"; color: #1A1A1A;\">We \u201csell\u201d each light for a minimum donation of $5.00.\u00a0 Lights are purchased in the name of someone who has \u2018brought light\u2019 into the life of the donor.\u00a0 That person could be living or deceased: such as a family member or close friend, a community member who has done something significant for the donor or others, a veteran, or anyone who is important to you.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal-P\" style=\"direction: ltr; unicode-bidi: normal; text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Normal-H\"><span style=\"; color: #1A1A1A;\">\u00a0A \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/rememberourvets.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/ToL.Memory.Card_.docx\" target=\"_blank\">memory card<\/a><\/span><span style=\"; color: #1A1A1A;\">\u201d is completed with the donor\u2019s and recipient\u2019s names and then placed on a \u201cmemory display\u201d located in the foyer of the library \/ museum.\u00a0 The donor receives a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/rememberourvets.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/ToL.Donor_.Card_.docx\" target=\"_blank\">donor<\/a><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/rememberourvets.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/ToL.Donor_.Card_.docx\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0card<\/a><span style=\"; color: #1A1A1A;\">\u201d that they can complete and do with as they choose.\u00a0 They can enclose it in a seasonal card and send it to the recipient or their family, or they can hang it from their Christmas tree as a family gift ornament.
