Albert “Bert” was born in Strathroy, Ontario on December 4, 1919. He enlisted in the Canadian Army (Active) as an Infantryman on December 1, 1939, at London, ON and served with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment. Bert had previously served with the Middlesex and Huron Militia Regiment in Strathroy for 3 years. He trained as a rifleman but also was employed as a driver and served in England, Sicily Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany.

Bert had rescued a couple and their 3-day old daughter in Barneveld, Holland. Bert passed away on June 2, 1970. Years later his wife went to Holland and met that daughter. Medals include the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-45. Due to demobilization, Bert was honourably discharged on August 4, 1945, at the rank of Private, in London, Ontario.
