Richard Maxwell “Scottie” Hall was born October 3, 1915, in Highgate, Ontario. He had two sisters, Mrs. James McWhiney of Strathroy and Mrs. Ernest Fairness of London. His father, Richard Hall engraved on the top half of the marker,  was killed in action on the Somme, at age 28, during WWI.

Maxwell lived on Colborne Street. He attended Colborne Street School (now demolished and replaced with seniors’ condos), and then Strathroy Collegiate Institute (now converted to seniors’ full-service apartments). He attended the Presbyterian Church. He married Pearl Elson. He played various sports including baseball and hockey. He was a member of the Middlesex Light Infantry from 1930 to 1940. He enlisted with the Kent Regiment and served overseas as a private.

His newspaper death notice indicates that Maxwell served for 5 years in the army and received the King’s Award while in Italy.
