The 2013 Tree of Light project had a goal which was set in cooperation with the Municipality of Strathroy – Caradoc. In 2013, as part of the municipality’s downtown improvement plan, the S-C Lions were asked to provide lockable bicycle racks for the downtown so that citizens could ride to stores and be assured that their bicycle was safely secured. The Strathroy – Caradoc Lions also sponsored the construction and installation of wheelchair accessible picnic tables at local parks: Alexandra, Pool Shelter on Park Street, and York Street Soccer Fields.
Throughout the month of November, Strathroy – Caradoc Lions approached individual citizens and businesses to “buy a bulb” on the Tree of Light and to “sponsor a bike rack or picnic table”. Nine (9) bike stands, and 6 picnic tables were purchased and the municipality installed them.
