Corporal #6531
William Oscar O’Dell On the 24th of June 1916 the Strathroy Age reported that “no official word has been received yet to confirm the report that Pte John Pedden and Sgt O. O’Dell, Strathroy boys, had been wounded in France”. Pte Pedden seems to have recovered but Oscar died of a shrapnel wound to his left hip. He left the farm to attest in the 1st Battalion CEF at Valcartier on the 20th Sept 1914 as part of the first contingent. His burial place is unknown but he is honoured on the Menin Gate in Ypres Belgium. Oscar never was promoted Sergeant as the Age reported.
