Lt. #7112
Wilson “Mack” MacWilliam Cuddy was a druggist from Strathroy Ontario. He was the son of Loftus and Betty Cuddy. He joined the 1st Battalion at Valcartier in Sept 1914. He was promoted Company Sergeant Major and then granted a commission in July 1916. He died on the 24th Sept 1916 of wounds received while bringing up ammunition at Ginchy, France. It is likely that “Mack” was shot during the Battle of Fler-Courcelette, which was one of the events during a major offensive known as “The Battle of the Somme“, and died a couple of days after being shot.
Locate the little white box labelled 15 Sept. Ginchy is to the left.
Mack is buried at Warloy- Baillon Communal Cemetery Extension France. His name also appears on the honour roll at St Andrews Presbyterian Church Strathroy. An extensive article was published about him in the Strathroy Age on the 28th of September 1916.
